Manitoba unemployment edged upward

Statistics Canada is out with last month’s unemployment numbers and the rate in Manitoba is up a tenth of a point.

The jump to 5.6% unemployment came at a time when 600 jobs were added to the provincial economy, but those additions were not enough to offset the number of people entering the workforce.

Unemployment in the city of Winnipeg remained stable at 5.9% between October and November.

Nationally, the unemployment rate held steady at 6.9% for the third straight month.
