Polar bear attacks man in Churchill

A Churchill man had to be taken to hospital after he was attacked this morning by a polar bear.

The bear began mauling the 69 year old man shortly after 5:00 a.m. when he exited his house in response to the animal confronting a couple of people that were out for a walk.

The attack ended when the bear was chased away when a vehicle was driven towards it.

Mounties says the man is being treated for multiple cuts but is in stable condition.

Conservation officers tracked the bear responsible and two animals have been shot and killed following to this morning’s attack.
