Some of the last Canadian soldiers serving in Afghanistan will be arriving home to Winnipeg later this afternoon.
The soldiers were there as part of Operation Attention, a training mission that’s passing on knowledge to the Afghan Army, Air Force and that country’s national police force.
The returning soldiers will be greeted at the airport by James Bezan, the parliamentary secretary for Defence and Member of Parliament for the Selkirk-Interlake area.
This contingent is amongst the last that will be returning from the mid-east nation, as Canada’s commitment to Afghanistan will end entirely at the end of March of this year.
