CANADA POST GIVES RECOGNITION TO BUFFY SAINTE-MARIE WITH STAMP
Canada Post says it will celebrate Indigenous singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie with a new stamp design set to revealed November 18th at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.
The five time Juno award winner has spent more than half a century balancing her music interests with advocacy for Indigenous communities.
She wrote the 1964 antiwar peace anthem “Universal Soldier” and the 1976 song “Starwalker” an ode to the American Indian Movement.
In 1982, Sainte-Marie became the first Indigenous person to win an Oscar as co-writer of “Up Where We Belong” for “An Officer And A Gentleman.”
