Hasbro: from board games to the red carpet
The game of Monopoly is the latest board game to get a real life movie adaptation.
Celebrity A-lister, Kevin Hart is to produce and star in the upcoming film.
Directing is Tim Story who also worked on films such as Ride along 1 & 2, and the first Barbershop movie.
So far no official plot details have been released, but IMDB had this to say about the storyline.
“A trio of kids from Baltic Avenue discover that Charles Darrow, the inventor of Monopoly, hid a coded secret in the game that we’ve all been playing with for generations, setting them off on an adventure through the streets of Atlantic City, racing through forgotten underground railroads, the Boardwalk and more as they’re pursued by a near-bankrupt casino owner also competing to find Darrow’s hidden fortune.”
Lionsgate is set to helm the project, and with big studio names behind this one, it will be interesting to see how the company handles the transition from board game to real life.
“Not the first board game movie”
Hasbro also has rights to the Transformers toys which it turned into a successful film franchise.
Not only that, but the game of battleship was also adapted to the big screen. The leading actor on that film is Taylor Kitsch, with other cast members including Liam Neeson and pop star Rihanna.
