Increase fines for businesses, individuals to help control COVID

The Manitoba government is rolling out stiffer penalties for scofflaws that ignore COVID-19 restrictions.

The new fines that can be levied against individuals are nearly triple the amount from before, up from $486 to $1,296.

Businesses are facing about twice as harsh a fine, going from $2,542 to an even $5,000.

Those new fines are in effect as of today.

As of October 12, 134 fines have been issued for violations of public health orders.
