Both statements are correct, but both are contradicting to the idea its trying to pass on.

There is probably a lesson to be learned here other than what the sayings trying to get across, but that’t just too much thought for something so silly.
Not! Silly thoughts is one of the things I do best.

The most clear thing I can pull from the saying is that early bird says work hard, and second mouse says be careful!

This saying is 24 years old! Why are we still saying this? I guess we just wanna feel philosophical and stuff.
but can’t we do it with other phrases, ones that don’t contradict each other.
