Kapyong Barracks Update
Over a decade in the making; The First Nations of Treaty 1 territories are able to start to develop the land that is the Kapyong Barracks.
With so much information to go over, ideas and plans, they are now hosting an information session June 21st at the site itself.
June 21st 12 pm to 8 pm @ the Kapyong barracks.
located on route 90 between Taylor avenue and Grant Avenue
More than just an info session:
- Family friendly with a pow wow to take place
- Food vendors will be available as well
- Drum groups from every First Nation in Treaty 1 territory
- Tee-pees from every First Nation in Treaty 1 territory
- Traditional Music and Culture
Its your chance to find out more about the proposed planning of the land, as well as take in some concept art of what they plan to accomplish.
There will also be a question period, where any questions you have will be answered.
Some of the proposed projects include a hotel, gas bars, day cares, hospices, sports facilities, hosting venues, as well as residential and commercial residences.
Whatever they decide to build; It will surely be life changing for a lot of people.
Treaty one consists of Seven First Nations: Long Plain First Nation, Peguis First Nation, BrokenHead Ojibway First Nation, Roseau River First Nation,Sagkeeng First Nation, Sandy Bay First Nation, and Swan Lake First Nation.
