Learn to make Bannock on a stick
Every Sunday at The Forks here in Winnipeg, a fire is built inside of a Teepee just outside the Market Plaza.
Inside you will find Barbara and Clarence Nepinak sitting around teaching the art of fire roasting bannock as well as telling Indigenous stories. The dough is pre-made by Barbara at her home and is brought in as individual wrapped portions; meanwhile Clarence tends to the fire and prepares the sticks used to cook the bannock. The tradition, which takes place every Sunday from 1 P.m to 3:30 P.m has been happening every year for 19 years so far.
With only so many Sundays left in the Winter season, it might be a good idea to take in some knowledge before you miss your chance until next year, when it opens again for the Winter season.
