THIS DAY MARKS 60 YEARS AGO THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED
It was on this day back in 1959 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson were killed in a plane crash in Iowa. Holly was 22, Valens was 17 and the Big Bopper was 28. The deaths of Holly, Valens and Richardson became known as “the day the music died,” a phrase from Don McLean’s 1972 million-selling tribure, “American Pie.”
