You thought wrong

A fact almost everyone has heard of; chewing gum staying in your system for 7 years.

FALSE:

Chewing gum is insoluble, which means it cannot be broken down.

Gerontologists confirm this with years of working within that area, that they never in all their years seen a wad of gum just hanging around in a stomach.

I guess a lot of people imagine the same thing happens when you step on gum, it just hangs around there until its taken off, which is obviously not the case.

After 30 to 120 minutes, the stomach empties into other parts of the bodies, which includes gum.

Swallowing gum is not harmful:
though the artificial & natural sweeteners in the chewing gum will cause issues if you consume too much of it.

Gastroenterology is the study of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon), and biliary system.
